About ru-ok?
ru-ok? is Brighton and Hove’s under 18’s specialists substance misuse service. It aims to offer a young person and family-friendly service, reducing the harm caused by alcohol and drug use by young people. It offers free confidential advice, support and information to young people about their drug and/or alcohol use.
Placed in the Children and Families services in the council it is a multi agency, multi disciplinary team, with staff from social care and health. The workers are substance misuse specialists; the team consists of generic workers, a social worker, an alcohol worker, a nurse, a youth offending team worker and a doctor.
The team offers specialist support to young people who have substance misuse problems which may be complex, long-term or where their use is either potentially or actually causing serious problems in their day-to-day life. The aim is to help the young persons move to a point where the substance is no longer problematic. They young persons will set the goals and will chose whether to work to reduced control use or giving up. ru-ok? also works with young people who are committing offences or using sex to pay for drugs or alcohol.
Anyone can refer to the service. If you are a young person or a parent/carer then all you have to do is call during office hours, Monday-Friday and a worker will speak to you. If you are professional working with young people please call to discuss making a referral.
